“I think you misunderstood me.” Blaise returned Potter’s glare. He didn’t like the Gryffindor. “I don’t think you’re that stupid to not realise what the Dark Lord is capable of. He’s a madman. Its easier to expect the worst from him. And I’m not a bloody idiot to not even know what you’ve been through since first year.”

“The harm I’m talking about is not only about the physical dangers that he could encounter being with you but the emotional ones as well.” Blaise looked away from him and stared at the waters. Contrary to popular belief, the pompous Slytherin cared for other people as well. He was vain, sure. He was selfish, yes. He was also a Slytherin. He was supposed to be evil and everything dark in this world, but not everyone in Slytherin are like that. There were some who were, yes but there are also good people in Slytherin. “I’m saying that if you hurt him or he even gets hurt by even a little bit, I will do more than maim you. And this warning stretches beyond the war if your relationship survives that.” Blaise told him. He could have just said, be careful with his heart but that wasn’t Blaise.

“I know.” Harry said quietly, because really, he didn’t know how else to phrase it. He knew, he just did, that Draco was emotionally unstable. Anyone who’d lived his life would be. He was always walking a fine line with Draco, always on the edge, never knowing wether he’d fall to his death or remain safely on the ground.

“We’re very alike, me and Draco, more than people think, that’s why…” He made a vague gesture with his hand.

That’s why we’re together. He wanted to say. That’s why we work, in a twisted way. That’s why we understand each other. That’s why we don’t ask about the past, we wait to talk. That’s why we had. That’s why we don’t want any one else involved. Because everyone else just ruins it.

But he wasn’t very good with words, so he didn’t know how to say it. Besides, it was too much sentiment, and he doubted Zabini cared much for sentiment.

Blaise watched Potter. He knew it was true. They’ve experienced things that boys their age shouldn’t have experienced. They were both strong and brave. He loves Draco like a brother and he didn’t want to see him get hurt. “I know.” He sighed. “I know how alike you both are. To an extent, I somehow can see why Draco would like you.”

"I can also see how easily you can hurt him. But I know you wouldn’t do it on purpose." Blaise ran a hand through his hair.

“I can’t really do anything about it, can I?” Blaise asked. It was true, no matter how much he disapproved of their relationship, it was still Draco’s life. It didn’t matter anymore, as long as Draco was happy, he’d try his best to be happy for his bestfriend. “Oh, don’t worry Princess. I’m not going to maim you.”

The nickname definitely struck a nerve in Harry. He may be gay, but he was still a guy and didn’t appreciate the suggestion otherwise.

“Oh please.” He spat, “I could take you on any day; that’s the last thing I’m worried about.”

He didn’t just say it out of spite though; it was actually the truth. No, Harry’s physical health and well-being wasn’t much of a concern for him. He could hold his own, and got injured often enough that he was used to it. He was more worried about Draco, and those who loved gossip, and the papers, and whether and when Malfoy senior would find out.

“Really now?” Blaise smirked. Potter had grown over the few years but he was still bigger and taller than the wizarding hero. Physically, he could win a fist fight. Magically, well, it would be fair game. Potter was adequate in the spell category. There is a slight possibility that Potter had more knowledge in the defensive spells. “So what brings you out here? Aren’t you suppose to look for my bestfriend and snog or do whatever you do on your time together?” He asked.

Harry grinned wickedly. “Oh, we did that this morning, don’t worry. Don’t you notice when your best friend doesn’t spend the night in his own dorm?” Or returns with red and purple love bites all over his neck. He added mentally; Zabini probably didn’t want to hear that part out loud.

He picked up a flat stone, skipping it across the water. “Besides, everyone is suspicious enough. We can’t ‘mysteriously disappear’ at the same time constantly. Though we do want to go to Hogsmeade together this weekend. Still not sure how we’re going to manage to that inconspicuously, though.” He admitted.

Blaise grimaced. He didn’t need to know that. “Of course I’ve noticed. How do you think I found out?” Blaise asked him. He placed his books in his bag and looked at the lake. He didn’t even know why he was still there. Usually other houses wouldn’t have bothered with him. They would usually leave him alone but Potter was bugging him. “What are you still talking to me?” Blaise asked. He already told Potter that he didn’t disapprove of their relationship or did he approve of it. “If you’re under the impression that we’ll be friends just because you’re dating my bestfriend, I’m pleased to inform you that you are wrong.”

Harry rolled his eyes for the umpteenth time since he’d sat next to the boy. “Because I’m always at the lake and just because you’re here, it doesn’t mean I’m going to leave. And I doubt a friendship between us will happen any time soon, but I just wanted to make sure you at least didn’t want to hex me or something.”

He paused, hesitated, then spoke again. “But, I just wanted you to know, that Draco’s safe with me. I would never intentionally hurt him, and I’m not going to let anyone else hurt him. Anyone.” He knew he didn’t need to specify the implication; Zabini was smart enough to know that Harry wasn’t just talking about other students or the papers, but also Draco’s parents, Bellatrix, and Voldemort.

“To be honest, I don’t trust you, Potter. Those are just words and I can’t bring myself to believe in just words. How many days or weeks have you been seeing each other? A month or less, give or take?” Blaise asked. He didn’t like to admit it but he was really worried about Draco. He wasn’t sure if he even thought about this relationship through. He wasn’t sure if he knew the risks or if he really considered that this is worth the risks. “Are you saying that you’re willing to save Draco, no matter what it takes? And frankly, this war could go either way. Your side could win or the Dark Lord’s side could.”

Harry stared out over the lake as Zabini spoke. Were those seriously even questions? Was he really asking all this? Zabini really didn’t know a thing about him if he had to ask. Then again, Zabini really didn’t know him, and never had a reason to, so he understood.

“Whether or not you trust me doesn’t matter.” He stated. “What matters is whether Draco trusts me, and I should hope he does, at least a little. I’ll earn his trust, I’ll work for it. Quite frankly, I don’t need or want anyone else’s trust, including yours.” He paused, then continued. “And are you daft? Of course I’ll save him. Is that really even a question?” He finished as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. Harry really didn’t think it was much of a secret that he valued of the lives of those he cared for far above his own, but again, he supposed Zabini really never had a reason to learn that about him.

"Even if it costs you, your life and the lives of some of your loved ones?" Blaise asked. The man was hitting numerous nerves and the only reason he hadn’t hexed him off to the other side of the lake was that Draco would kill him. "I don’t care if you need it or not, I’m just telling you that if you hurt Draco or cause him harm, I will do more than maim you, the Dark Lord would just be a little boy with a treat when I’m done with you."
